Wonderful Tone. Phenomenal Ergonomics. Superior Melodic Potential.

These Triple Bongos are the same width as traditional bongos, yet only half the weight. They require no tuning, have great response and produce rich and harmonically complex warm tones.

Ergonomics

I approached this design with a focus on the playing experience. As a bongo player (my first instrument) I have suffered for many hours playing heavy, sharp and uncomfortable traditional bongos. My mission was to try and find a cure for the dreaded “Bongo Thigh”!

The main challenge when playing a long set of music is the physical weight of the instrument. So the primary question was; can a beautiful tone be produced from a lighter structure? At only a fraction over 2kg, Small Drum Revolution/SDR Triple Bongos are literally half the weight of a traditional wooden-shell, metal ring instrument.

My resolve was to drastically simplify the design and add structure whilst removing weight. This resulted in some very significant benefits. They are a monocoque structure that requires no tuning or maintenance. The physical size of the drums was so dramatically reduced that there was space for an additional drum to be added within the standard bongo footprint.

The instrument stays in tune with itself and the pitch remains consistent even with considerable fluctuations in temperature and humidity.

Player Comfort

The next issue to tackle was to make an instrument comfortable enough to hold between your legs for a whole set.
These SDR Triple Bongos fit naturally into the bend of your inner knees without requiring as much tension in your leg muscles.
The playing edges are rounded and smoothed, making them an inviting tactile experience and the well radiused edges are kind on your hands.
Oh, and that’s a thumb hole to easily carry them around.

It’s all about structure.

SDR’s Triple Bongos are built around this super strong and lightweight X chassis.
The structure focuses the energy in the playing face for longer, creating a richer tone and greater projection.
